New Adventure

Today marks the beginning of a new adventure!  After working for 25 years in the school system in Puerto Rico, Texas, and Florida...I will start a new job as a full time professor at a private university.  Dream come true?  Not really, BUT I see it as an opportunity to grow, to influence, to inspire...Let me go back to the "dream come true". I can't say that my dream was always to be at the university level, unlike my sister, but after a couple years teaching as an adjunct, I realized that it was time for me to address a different type of student...the adult learner.

Throughout my career as an educator, I encountered many adults of ages 30-50 that found themselves too old to study.  I could never understand why people would limit themselves that way when they still could do so much, but sometimes it is just a state of mind. I know...some of you would say "I don't have money!", but money seems to magically appear for other things, like a new house or a car, car, and a car.  :)   Why not education?  Don't get into debt, bankrupt debt, trying to get the things that ONLY a sound education can give you.  If you are thirty...what are you going to do with your next 30 or 40 years?  If you are forty or fifty....the same thing. You still have time for a whole new life to be successful. My dad always says: "Studying is worse than working", and he is right...But it is worth it!!  Nothing will give you more satisfaction...and before you know it...you look back and...IT IS DONE!!  To this day I hear family members and friends whine and complain about their wasted past...Do you?  Then do something about it, or for the next 30 years will be whining about your SECOND wasted past.  Grow old..with NO REGRETS!!

Education never comes alone.  With it comes professional status, higher self-esteem, power, peace of mind, better working conditions, travel, and of course, money.  And let's not forget responsibility, leadership, mentoring, positive influence, respect.

But what does all this has to do with God?  GOD wants YOU to be the best you can be!!!  If you are not a leader, then you are a follower. As a leader, you have the opportunity to influence others; to teach the truth.  Which one are you?  How do you conduct yourself, as well as your behaviors, your thoughts, and your actions come from a renewed, rational mind; the opposite, from thoughts, and consequently feelings, that defeat every good purpose and plan that God has for YOU!!  The Bible says in Hosea 4:6: "My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge".  I believe this applies to everything.  I have sat in churches for years listening to all kinds of ignorance, and traditions of men... "...Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." (Ephesians 5:14). "...The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber..." (Romans 13:11)...The time is short!  Make the best of it!!  God is waiting for YOU!  Your new life is waiting for you!

The Word of God is clear..."Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!" declares the LORD (Jeremiah 23:1 NIV). The intention of this article is not to criticize or offend the pastoral ministry as instituted by God, but to open the eyes of those pastors who have deviated from the truth (consciously or unconsciously), and to create awareness in Christians that are under the influence of such charlatans. Those that are righteous are not afraid of the light, but if your ways are crooked and you don't want your deeds to be exposed, then this is your chance to make it right.

If you follow the news closely, you are aware of the thousands of people affected by the leadership of men with secret agendas. Some had dark motives from the beginning, others slipped from the truth; some were just plain crazy. In the end, the sheep (people) were the ones hurt or dead. The pastoral ministry is the biggest responsibility in the eyes of God. It is also the most beautiful. "Return, faithless people," declares the LORD, "for I am your husband. I will choose you..Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding"( Jeremiah 3:15 NIV). Here are some questions for you...Is God still doing the choosing? Has the pastoral ministry become a job? Is today's practice of the ministry just ignorance passed on from generation to generation?

Job 42:7, 8 - "...He [God] said to Eliphaz the Temanite [Job's friend], 'I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken of me what is right...' " (NIV)     Let's keep this verse in mind while you read this....

I just received an e-mail today that said some "judgment from God" was coming to New York.  It is supposed to be a prophecy from a minister.  That e-mail brought me back to the years in Hispanic churches where the topic of the day was always judgment. If you don't do this, God is going to punish you; if you don't do that, God is going to kill you; you cut your hair, you are going to hell, you wear pants, you are going to hell, etc, etc, etc.  At the time I didn't know any better, so I believed it.  With that, came a life of stress, anxiety, and fear.  God was not a person to love, but to fear; and I don't mean giving God the respect and commitment that He deserves, I mean the terrible feeling that comes when you are never good enough.  The danger of this is that frustration sets in, and you, somehow give up.

Well, I am not the person I once was.  I know the Bible inside and out, and my cup is overflowed with experience and the Spirit of God.  You want to try and fool me, you better think twice.  I know this sounds arrogant, but I am sick of people talking out of both sides of their mouths, and tired of seeing Christians, just seating in churches "swallowing" everything that comes from the pulpit. Why? Because the person has a title, whether pastor, evangelist, prophet...??? I say am a princess...does that make me one?  GOD asked us to DISCERN and DISSECT what we hear, not just accept it as truth because it comes from whoever that goes on a pulpit, radio, or TV.  People hear these things, prophecies, etc. and go around running like a chicken with her head cut off, meaning in panic, crazy.

All I am hearing today is a lot of contradiction between the God that is being preached and the God of the New Testament. Yes, God hasn't changed, but the way He deals with man has.
